ConocoPhillips Australia's Environment Plan was accepted by Australia’s independent regulator, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA), in February 2025.

  • Exploration activities at Essington-1 were completed in early December 2025. All anchors and mooring chains were successfully retrieved as of 29th December 2025.
  • Exploration activities at Charlemtont-1 were completed in mid-January 2026. All anchors and mooring chains were successfully retrieved as of 7th February 2026.
  • While there is no remaining equipment at the Essington-1 and Charlemont-1 locations, the 500m Petroleum Safety Zones will remain active until 1 March 2026.
  • If you are a commercial marine user affected by the Essington‑1 and/or Charlemont-1 exploration activities, you have until 1st September 2026 to lodge your claim.

If you are a commercial marine user who has been affected by the Otway Exploration Drilling Program, you may be eligible for compensation for displacement, loss of catch, or fishing gear loss or damage.


The Regia MSS Environment Plan is currently under assessment with Australia's independent regulator, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA).
